What they do not do

Two things people reasonably expect from a PDF toolkit are missing, and it is better to say so here than to let you find out after choosing a file.

  • Reading text out of a scan (OCR)

    A scanned page is a picture of text, and turning it back into text needs optical character recognition — a trained model, tens of megabytes of it, downloaded before the first page can be read. Nothing here does that, so every tool that needs a text layer says plainly when a document has none rather than returning an empty file and leaving you to work out why.

  • A digital signature with a certificate

    Sign & Stamp places a picture of a signature on the page. A legally binding e-signature is a different thing: a certificate issued to you by an authority, cryptographically bound to the document, which a reader can verify. That needs a private key we would have to hold, and holding it would undo the reason every tool here runs in your browser.
