Worth knowing

  • A logo covers real data. Error correction rebuilds what a logo hides, but only so much — the logo is capped at a quarter of the code and correction is forced to its highest setting. Always scan a logo code with a real phone before printing it.
  • SVG does not include the logo. Embedding an image inside an SVG produces a file many print shops and design tools handle badly. Use the PNG for a logo code, or place the logo yourself in your layout.
  • Colours need real contrast. A pale code on a pale background is unreadable to a scanner even when it looks fine on screen, so you will be warned before you download one.
  • These codes are static. The content is encoded in the pattern itself, so it cannot be changed after printing and there is no scan tracking — which also means nothing to expire and no subscription to keep the code alive.
