What belongs on an invoice

• A number that never repeats. Sequential is easiest to defend if anyone ever audits you, and it is how you find a single invoice again two years later. This generator numbers them for you.
• Both parties, in full. Your trading name and address, and the customer's. A tax number belongs here too wherever the invoice has to satisfy a tax authority rather than just a customer.
• Two dates, not one. The issue date and the date payment is due. “Net 30” on its own is an argument waiting to happen; a date on the page is not.
• Line items that stand on their own. Quantity, unit price and what the thing actually was. “Consulting” is what gets an invoice queried; “14 hours, site survey and report” is what gets it paid.
• Tax shown separately. VAT or sales tax as its own line with the rate visible, so the customer can reclaim it and you can account for it without recalculating anything.
• How to actually pay you. Bank details, or whatever method you accept. An invoice with no payment instructions is a reminder, not an invoice.

Worth knowing

• Nothing is uploaded. The invoice is built in your browser and the PDF is generated there too, so the figures and your customer's details never reach a server.
• An account is only for keeping it. Building, printing and downloading all work signed out. Signing in is what lets you find the invoice again, reuse a customer and carry the numbering across devices.
• Print and PDF are the same layout. What the preview shows is what the PDF contains — the page is laid out for A4 and Letter, not screencaptured.
